Cleanevent at the Australian Open

2001 AUSTRALIAN OPEN
Summer days and nights in Melbourne in January can only mean one thing – soaring temperatures and heated action on the tennis courts at Melbourne Park. The Rod Laver Arena was certainly the place to be during the 2001 Australian Open Tennis Championships from January 15-28.

Or was it the new Vodafone Arena where the action was at its hottest? It really doesn’t matter because the general public certainly showed their love of tennis as they flocked to the Melbourne and Olympic Park precinct in record numbers to watch the action of the first Grand Slam tennis event of the year!

Crowds were in excess of 540,000, which kept the staff of Cleanevent very busy over the two weeks of the event. It was a new experience for all concerned with the opening of the Vodafone Arena as it meant for the first eight days of the tournament, there were two full-sized arenas to clean and turnover.

Brian Scharper, the Cleanevent Event Manager for the Open would like to thank all the staff that worked at the event for doing such a great job. He also sends out a special thanks to all the Supervisors for their strong commitment and dedication during the event, keeping to budgets and getting the job done to the high standards that Cleanevent is renowned for. So thank-you to Andy Leonard and Tony Gould from BJ!

Teamtalk must also thank Andrew Weaver, who supervised the Rod Laver Arena afternoon/evening shift during the event. Andrew is also the year round Cleanevent Venue Manager for the Melbourne & Olympic Park precinct. Thanks for letting all the “event crew” take over your venue for two weeks and thanks for letting them use your staff and equipment!
