AROUND THE TRAPS – QUEENSLAND

Cairns Convention Centre

I am pleased to say that the Cairns Convention Centre has entered into an enterprising season of events, with the Tropical North experiencing some extraordinarily good weather for delegates and clientele, many of who have travelled from overseas. In recent weeks we have had several science and medical conferences, including Gala dinners and Awards nights that have kept us on our toes with tight turnarounds.

It’s been a pleasure to notice that comments from visitors have claimed the Cairns Convention Centre as one of the cleanest venues they have been to. For us a major focus in Cairns has been to employ and train new casuals into the Cleanevent team, in preparation for the absence during the Olympic period, of our Event Manager, Michelle Kearney.

Comments such as the one above acknowledge and affirm our commitment to providing a high quality cleaning service to the Centre. Our casuals especially are to be commended.

Thank-you.

Dairy Farmers Stadium

Home of the Overflow Cowboys

The Cowboys are travelling along nicely although their position on the NRL ladder doesn’t show it to well. This year they have unearthed the young and still raw talent of Scott Prince who is having a blinder of a year wearing the Number Six Guernsey. He has promised us more post try antics like his six shooter and bronco riding.

July will see a big month of NRL action with the stadium hosting four home games starting with Melbourne Storm, followed by West Tigers, Sydney Roosters, and finishing up with Canberra.

Townsville Entertainment & Convention Centre

Home of the Townsville Crocs

The month of June started off fairly quietly with the local school’s Mime Show, but what a way to finish the month with Ride the Rage Bullriding. This involved competitors from all over the world competing in 3 shows in 2 days which involved one turn over clean and 2 post cleans. A great job and a true team effort were given by all.

Special thanks to Tony and Kevin from Karcher Townsville who came to the rescue with a walk behind scrubber to the get rid of last of the dirt and stains.

ANZ Stadium

Well how good are these Broncos?  They are assured of finishing well clear on top of the NRL ladder and I think they will go all the way this year.  The Stadium has a new manager in Chris Cochrane who I am looking forward to working closely with from here on in.

How good are the mighty Aussies at Tennis? The Davis Cup has just been held at this great new Tennis venue and the boys slaughtered the Brazilian's 5 - blot.   The crowds were at capacity for the 3 days of the event and Cleanevent (Rob Parry and his team) did a sensational job servicing the event.   The reports that came back were nothing short of fantastic and everyone involved with this event can take a pat on the back.

ANZ Stadium is the home for the upcoming Goodwill Games  and again I hope that Cleanevent will be servicing the venue for this prestigious event.   All in all things are great up at the mighty ANZ.

Suncorp/Metway Stadium

Well, things on this front are a little quiet at the moment and everyone is waiting for the renovations to start.  Once finalised the venue will seat 55,000 patrons and will be one of the best venues in Australia to watch various sporting events.  The upcoming BRL Grand Final should bring a reasonable crowd and I'm sure that the local boys will put on a great spectacle.

Brisbane Entertainment Centre

Hi Everyone!

It is that time of year again and only 6 months until the big guy in the red suit arrives. Before that we have many events to conquer. I would like to say a big thank-you to my permanent staff and all of my casual staff for the enormous effort they all put in to Disney on Ice.  With great success, this was the cleanest Disney on Ice ever, but without the help from the front of house staff and the fantastic teamwork, none of this would have been achieved. Thank-you one and all.

From the Disney on Ice skating rink, our arena is being transformed into a Supercross track this weekend and a wrestling ring the following weekend.  Nothing is impossible and still to come this year we are having the finals for the Bundaberg Bull Rides and heats and finals for the Rock Eisteddfod. If this is not enough, we still have the International Military Tattoo and the fantastic WCW Nitro Wrestling.  These are just a few of the bigger events; there are other smaller ones.

Until next time, bye from another sunny Queensland venue.

The Gabba

G’day from the crew at the Gabba!

The weather up here is as the say, "beautiful one day perfect the next." The past few months have been extremely busy with function after function. We had four Sunday Lions games at home in a row, but we have handled them without too many hassles.

We have finally been awarded the cleaning for the Olympic Soccer so things are going to heat up. It includes seven Games in ten days so that should keep us on our toes.

Once again I would like to thank all the staff for the effort they have put in to keep the GABBA up to the standard the public have come to expect when they come to watch the Lions ROAR!

All the best

Russell Murray
