CLEANEVENT COMMUNITY CORNER

Georgia Cody

In the April 2000 edition of Teamtalk, Craig Lovett paid homage to the many women within our organisation, "both in front of and behind the camera." But what do these women do? Where do they fit into the organisation? In our last edition, we gave you an insight in to the life of a woman behind the camera with our profile on Mike and Ann Dennis.

In this edition, I’d like to introduce a woman in front of the camera, one of our most successful female Venue Managers, Georgia Cody. Georgia heads up one our most prestigious clients, the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC).

Georgia has been with Cleanevent for ten years. Her first position within the company was as a casual at the Royal Melbourne Show, where her job was to keep the Mitchell and Ferris Wheel toilets and small lawn area clean. Over her first twelve months, she also worked at the Exhibition Buildings and Flemington Racecourse.

She then went to the Carlton Football Club for a period of eighteen months and became a full time employee. This made her the first full time female cleaner at Cleanevent (apart from Maryann Chatfield, who has been with the company since day dot).

From Carlton, Georgia moved to Flemington Racecourse for approximately eighteen months, where her duties included the day-to-day cleaning of the Tabaret. Her Venue Manager there was none other than our very own Victorian State Manager, Paul Barrett.

From Flemington she moved to Moonee Valley Racecourse. Whilst there she applied for a 2IC position, was given the job and became the first female 2IC within the company. Georgia’s Venue Manager at that time was Phil Chatfield. Moonee Valley was a venue she would remain at for three years, leaving with many fond memories of the people and her time there.

Moonee Valley provided Georgia with many challenges where she gained the necessary experience to step up into a Venue Management role. She was successful in her application for Venue Manager at MSAC and has been there for three years. "Georgia Cody is a very, very conscientious Cleanevent employee. She takes a great deal of pride in her work and treats the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre as if it were her own," says Simon Weatherill, CEO of MSAC.

Georgia is also the Sexual Harassment Officer for Victoria and is part of the team who will conduct the "Training Induction Courses" for new casuals.

Her position at MSAC has also provided the platform for further growth and opportunity, especially in this Olympic year. Georgia looks forward to playing a major role for Cleanevent at the Sydney Games. She will be Venue Cleaning Manager for one of the most highly visible venues, the Sydney International Aquatic Centre.

Georgia is a Gemini, who loves to read, hates to cook and is inspired by ordinary people who achieve extraordinary things. Her interests include archaeology (Greek mythology) and Forensic Science. Georgia is married to Ralph Cody, also a Venue Manager with Cleanevent at Calder Park Raceway. They have been together for thirteen years and married for eight.

They have two children, both girls. Amanda, who is thirteen, is a straight A student and sees her future as a criminal lawyer with a degree in Forensic Science. Danielle, the youngest, is nine. Her passion in life apart from her dad, is karate, in which she has a blue belt and her family have the bruises to prove it!

On behalf of everyone here at Cleanevent, we thank Georgia for her hard work, dedication and loyalty. We wish her every success during the Olympics and also in the future.
