STATE OF THE NATION - QUEENSLAND

Well it’s that time again, where we put our thoughts together in an attempt to keep everyone informed of current happenings.

Up in sunny Queensland we are gearing up for the ‘Ekka.’ For the first time we are servicing the Brisbane Show and by the time this hits the streets we will have successfully completed the task and be planning for next year. I guess that now is the time to thank Andy Leonard and his wonderful Queensland based casual staff for managing the ‘Ekka’ and for doing such a great job (how’s that for confidence, this is being put together some 6 weeks prior to the event?).

Everyone is excited about the prospects of the Olympics (or part there of) coming to sunny Brisbane where we’ll host several countries for the soccer. Naturally most athletes that get to see Brisbane first will be a bit disappointed once they leave and venture south, however, better to have been spoilt early than not spoilt at all.

We have several permanent staff members going to assist in the management of the Sydney Olympics and I’m sure they will enjoy the experience and the opportunity. Naturally we have a number of casuals heading south to offer their assistance and knowledge to their southern cousins. All in all I’m certain that everyone will pull together for an amazing team effort, thus ensuring ‘the job will be done.’ Russell Murray is geared up for his Olympic involvement and his staff (lots of new ones) are keen to display their wares and continue in the current vein of keeping ‘The Gabba’ the cleanest football stadium in the country.

Now that things have settled down a bit we all might be having some well earned holidays and resting up for the next major assault on the next major event. So to one and all good hunting and let’s continue to be the best we can be at what we do.

Cheers

Ken Mayes
