Technology Shake-Up
We survived the Y2K computer scare in December 1999, and were planning to do the
same for the GST introduction in June 2000.
We also have to plan for our business growth and productivity improvements. Then of
course, there is the no small matter of systems and machines to ensure we can deliver to
the Olympics.
As a result, both Sydney and Melbourne offices have received new computers, a new network
and new software over the Christmas period. In Melbourne we replaced the old Novell system
with an enlarged Microsoft NT network. This linked some 30 devices covering Victoria State
operations, the National Events and Major Projects division, and corporate users.
Applications include: Corporate Accounting and Payroll; the Management Information System
including the McCarter reports; the Venue Forecasting module and the suite of programs
that make up our Event Management System.
In Sydney, we have also installed a Microsoft NT network to cover the NSW State
operations. There is plenty of upsize for the Olympics.
As part of the Shake-Up, the Cleanevent Event Management System is being upgraded.
Timelining is on Microsoft Project, staff rostering is on an Access data base, while other
applications such as the Staging reports and Event Diary are built in Excel and Word.
Finally we will recruit 2 or 3 new staff members to assist in the development of the Event
Management System and its application to the many sites we will simultaneously manage in
the Olympic period.
