State of the NATION - VIC
Game Set & Match! Cleanevent slams home another successful Australian Open
Tennis Tournament, and the Big Top comes down on the 1st Grand Slam for the Century!
What a wonderful event with over 450,000 patrons over 14 days of the worlds best tennis,
and we were involved in every minute of it. The tennis is a long and hard event, and
its important to keep the momentum the whole way through. Thank you and well done to
the staff who were involved with this event.
It is important that every time we come out of an event, we learn, and we develop staff
and new ways to improve our operation. Some time ago a daily occurrence report was
developed which is now used through our Help desk. Its Cleanevents way of
tracking and forwarding relevant information to the venue of issues that arise, sometimes
relevant to cleaning and sometimes relevant to plumbing, electric, etc. This system proved
to be most beneficial to our morning operations meetings with MOPT during the Open.
As part of the MOPT EB the staff (ushers, security, and general working staff) were
required to perform a turnover clean of the seating deck of the centre court.
Cleanevents involvement was from an operational perspective where we supervised them
in carrying out this task. Mark Graham, General Manager Building Services, was very
positive about the exercise. It wasnt so much about dollars and cents, but more
along the lines of building a new and positive culture within his venue. I think everyone
came out with rewarding results.
No, the pace doesnt stop there! Golf, Interdominion, St Kilda Festival, and
Nationals at Calder Park, Motor Show and the Australian Cup at Flemington are just a few
of the many events currently happening in Victoria, not to mention the fantastic Qantas
Formula One GP. This time of the year is truly a logistical challenge for all. However
with the lines of communication remaining open, and our objective of making the Cleanevent
football team fitter and healthier, this is the only we do business. Flat out!
If you liken this company to the football team when talking about the health and fitness,
it is about developing all staff to take on responsibility, and develop ability to enable
them to play in the seniors. Everyone can play in the firsts, but you also need a good
junior team to develop!
