TEAM 2000 - Olympics Progress Report at August

With a little over 20 days to go, TEAM 2000 has started at many venues. August 1, saw the hand over of some venues to SOCOG and August 14 sees the start of Olympic "lockdown". Monday August 14 also saw the arrival of the Olympic torch in NSW and the Olympic excitement is now a reality.

The final contractual issues are being finalised with Scope Creep priced and accepted. Two new venues are likely to be awarded to Cleanevent. These are Regents Park, which is a major training venue and a bus terminal and Homebush Arrival and Accreditation Centre (HAAC) which would then become the base contract for us to service a number of smaller clients in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct of Homebush Bay.

Contract revenue between August 1 and the end of hand back of venues after the Olympics and Paralympics is now nearly $15 million.

Our obligations to provide operations plans to our client, SOCOG, will be completed very soon. These operations plans will be the way of planning for future major events. The plans cover recruitment and staff rosters, "scripts" for cleaning tasks area by area, equipment needs, OH&S and other policies, etc. Sarah Hinman can’t wait to deliver them to SOCOG, and our Venue Cleaning Managers can’t wait to get them – they will then have the best information available about what is expected of them and how to achieve it. Like so many, Craig, Lani, Lucas and Sandra want now to see the action begin.

Technology and new business solutions are in the hands of Lynne Williams and consultants Gerard and Paula. Cleanevent has always been adventurous in its IT development, a reflection of the interests of Craig Lovett. The needs of the Olympics have created new systems for rostering, for timesheets, for recruitment and reporting.

But it will be the operations on the ground that will make the difference through the Cleanevent Venue Cleaning Managers. And what a second to none team from around the country – Michelle from Cairns; Jimmy and Merv from our Melbourne Racecourses (plus Kris and Chaddy); Tony from MECC and Georgia from MSAC. Andy is coming from the EKKA to the Olympics. (A big thank you to Ken Mayes and Paul Barrett for releasing these people and to all those who are covering for them in their absence.)

The NSW office and staff are providing major resources to TEAM 2000. Nick, Dean and Dessy have covered the build up of staffing and the quotations. Venue Management has fallen to Emu, Hunts, Kyla, Lisa and Shawn; John Hunter, Nicole Rennie and Mick O’Donnell are filling in for the interstaters, plus new or old staff such as Peter Fleming, Michael Hodgson and Hugh Carey. Some well-known names to Cleanevent will also fill VCM roles at Games time in Bill Griffith, Peter Thorpe and Wayne Taylor. Peter Verhey and BA are managing the build up of equipment and stores.

With the enthusiasm and hard work of so many, it is no wonder we say

BRING ON THE GAMES

Chris Arnott and Steven Webber
